M52 head on M50 block? 10-07-2011, 09:12 PM alright i have an E39 at the shop with a bad block but good head. could we put the M52 head on a good M50 block and it still run alright or will there be a big notice in power loss?

I know the M52 head flow better than the M50 head but I'm wondering by how much. Would it be worth it to get an M52 head or port out the M50 one. Both are the "same" 400 casting head. The valve stems are smaller on the M52 which does improve flow. IIRC the valves are otherwise the same...
I recently had to tear down the top of my BMW 325is M50 engine in order to replace the head gasket (see accompanying tech article - coming soon).
